Dilution and Serial Dilution Calculator
Stock volume for a target dilution, and the steps for a serial series.
How it works
C1V1 equals C2V2. For a serial dilution each step multiplies by the same factor, so the number of steps needed is the log of the total dilution over the log of the per-step factor.
Worth knowing
- Below about 10 microlitres a single-step dilution is dominated by pipetting error. Use a serial series instead.
- Mix at every step of a serial dilution. Carryover on the tip is the usual source of a bad curve.
- C1V1 = C2V2 holds for any concentration unit as long as both sides use the same one.
